FAQ

What riders ask

Do I need an international driving permit?

If your licence is not Kenyan, yes. Bring a valid motorcycle licence from your home country plus an International Driving Permit. We verify both during rider registration before your first rental.

What happens if I damage a bike on the trail?

Normal trail wear is expected — scratches, bent levers, scuffed panniers. We charge only for parts that need actual replacement. A damage deposit of KES 30,000 is held on your card and refunded on return minus any parts costs.

Can I ride without a guide?

Yes. Self-guided rentals include a GPS loaded with waypoints and checkpoint stamps. Guided tours add a lead rider, support vehicle, and camp logistics for multi-day routes.

What gear is included with the rental?

Every rental includes a helmet, gloves, and a basic tool roll. Jacket, boots, and knee guards are available to rent separately. We recommend bringing your own boots if you have them.

How do the GPS trail passport checkpoints work?

The GPS unit on each bike auto-stamps when you ride within 200 metres of a checkpoint. Stamps log to your rider profile so you can track every route you have completed. It is not gamified — it is just a record.

What is the best season for riding in Kenya?

January to March and July to October are the dry seasons with the best trail conditions. April to June brings the long rains — trails are rideable but muddy, and river crossings run higher. We update trail conditions weekly on the blog.
